Valve Sourcing: A Practical RFQ Checklist for B2B Buyers

Prepare a clearer valve inquiry with the required function, connections, service conditions, control details, quantities and documents before requesting a quotation.

Updated

1. Start with the required function

Explain what the valve must do in your system before requesting a price. Is the requirement isolation, pressure reduction, balancing or electrically controlled opening and closing? Manufacturer guidance treats the application as a core selection input (Reference 1). Use a product name to identify an initial candidate, then attach the project specification or an existing valve reference. A similar-looking catalog photograph is useful for discussion, but it does not establish that two valves are interchangeable.

2. Describe size and end connections separately

State the requested nominal size, connection type and applicable connection standard. Include a drawing or readable marking when available. Valve selection guidance identifies size and ends as separate considerations (Reference 1). For procurement, avoid leaving the supplier to interpret a short description such as threaded valve. Where relevant, request confirmation of thread designation, flange drilling, face-to-face dimensions or connection drawings before approval. Put each requested configuration on its own inquiry line so that quotations can be compared.

3. Provide service conditions and material requirements

Identify the medium and the required pressure and temperature ranges. Ask for the offered model's documented operating limits and wetted-material compatibility (Reference 1). For LIKEXL's current catalog entries, A105 and 304 are source-catalog material designations; they do not establish every component's grade or a complete valve rating. If your project specifies body, trim, seat or seal materials, list those requirements individually and request supporting documents for the proposed configuration. Keep unconfirmed points visible during the quotation review.

4. Add control and electrical details when applicable

For an electrically operated valve, include the available supply and required control function. Danfoss's solenoid selection tool asks for the medium, system, function, connection size and coil voltage (Reference 2). Also tell the supplier which power-loss position your project requires and whether the quotation should include the coil, actuator or other control accessories. Request the exact offered assembly's electrical information. These questions help define the inquiry; they do not confirm that any catalog item already meets your control requirements.

5. Make the commercial and document requirements explicit

List quantity by configuration, destination country and city or port, required delivery date, and the preferred quotation basis. Separate sample requests from planned bulk quantities. Describe packaging, labels, carton markings and any buyer inspection requirements. If a project calls for a particular standard, report or certification, name it and ask what can be supplied for the exact offered model. Ask the quotation to identify included documents, separately priced items and outstanding confirmations; do not treat a catalog image as evidence of certification.

6. Send a traceable inquiry to LIKEXL

LIKEXL is the website brand of China Shiming Trading Co., Ltd., a trading and sourcing supplier based in Hohhot, China, working with partner factories. Open the relevant product page and use its WhatsApp button to start an inquiry with the product name and page link. Add your configuration list, quantities, destination and available specification files. Ask for a quotation that lists the proposed model and any exceptions. Email is also available if you prefer to organize the initial request in writing.

FAQ

What is the minimum information for an initial valve inquiry?

Send the required function, size and connection, medium, pressure and temperature requirements, quantity and destination. Add electrical requirements where applicable, and mark any unknown items for review.

Does an A105 or 304 product title confirm all materials and ratings?

No. These LIKEXL catalog titles use the source catalog's material designation. Confirm the offered model's component materials, documented limits and required evidence before accepting it.

Can I send an inquiry before every requirement is finalized?

Yes. Send the information you have and identify open questions. Ask the quotation to distinguish confirmed details, proposed options and items still requiring buyer approval.
